Welcome to Silicon Junction

From Wandsworth Councils' Brightside Magazine:
Clapham Junction lies at the heart of Battersea’s thriving creative industry. A steady stream of digital and creative businesses have been relocating here in recent years, attracted by the low commercial rents, central location and fast transport links to key client groups in the City and West End.

Digital Marketing – An Integrated Strategy

Written by Alex Bremer
In this Brave New World of instant messaging, what messages have greater impact than those that spotlight and showcase a beloved and successful brand offering or proposition?

We would suggest that as things stand barely any companies still need to be convinced of the power of a Digital Marketing Strategy, and its inherent and instant Return on Investment.

What does Joomla mean to 3B?

Written by Alex Bremer
During our recent trip to The Netherlands for “J and Beyond”, Jack and Alex Bremer were collared by a few of the community media channels for comment and opinion. The video (below) that resulted from Kristoffer Sandven’s interview with Alex serves as a pretty comprehensive overview of our company, and our position within the Open Source community.

J and Beyond 2011 - A Perspective

Written by Alex Bremer
The 3B team have just returned from this year’s sensational Joomla Convention, “J and Beyond” – a 4 day celebratory geek-fest of all that is wonderful in the world of Open Source. This is the second year that Jack Bremer & I have attended, and this year we took along our Lead Developer, Jordan Worner, and our Head of Search, Hugh Williams.

It can’t go without mention that this is also undoubtedly a social occasion! Whilst the vast majority of delegates’ time was spent deep in code, it cannot escape the notice of anyone who has viewed the many personal photo galleries and blogs that sprung up during and immediately after J and Beyond that the friendships forged and renewed were toasted and lubricated by the finest ale that Rolduc had to offer... and more often than not it was very fine indeed.
Alex and Jack Bremer were recently invited to the Private View of Storm Thorgerson's show, "Storm Thorgerson: Right But Wrong - The Extended Album Art of StormStudios and Hipgnosis". Storm is a giant in the commercial graphic design world, and we were eager and excited attendees! Our report begins here, and continues on the website of the official Pink Floyd Fan Club, "Brain Damage":
Many of the brands we manage have a presence on popular social networking platforms, namely Facebook and Twitter. Recently, one of our strategies centred around a competition for Facebook Fans to win tickets to see P!NK live in concert and runners up to win goody bags provided by Marshall Arts. The Facebook Fan Page this competition ran on was already popular with music fans, with the admin regularly posting out information and engaging in conversations with fans.
3B Digital's photographer Laura Slater visited teenage girls at Mayville High School in Southsea to tell them the truth about airbrushing. After two years working in the fashion industry as an airbrusher, Laura saw how widespread retouching is, and told the schoolgirls that computers are used not just to remove skin blemishes but to remove ribs showing on skinny models or to even add flesh to some very thin models to make them look healthier.

Directory Enquiries - online and free! Beat the 118...

Written by Hugh

Directory Enquiries, but free - need I say more?
Should you migrate your website from Joomla 1.0.x to Joomla 1.5.x?

There is a lot of information online about this subject but we at 3B Digital know the answer is a resounding "YES!". We have been using Joomla as a CMS (Content Management System) for around 4 years and over this time we have been delighted with its ease of use and potential for development.

Joomla 1.5.x is a very different beast from Joomla 1.0.x and for this reason is not a straight-forward upgrade, and has to be migrated methodically and expertly. Essentially you must start with a fresh install of the site and migrate the data and the third party extensions to the new site.

Buying Domains - where to start?

Written by Fraser Shipsides
Tim Ferriss' fabulous blog over at the Four Hour Work Week has featured a very interesting article on buying domains, written by the founder of PhoneTag.com, James Siminoff.
The Internet has always been used for communication, and with the development of social networking sites, the way in which media is shared and people stay in touch has been transformed. Web users can easily send messages to each other, share photographs or post events with sites such as Facebook and Twitter, which has sparked their boom in popularity.

This overwhelming rise in social networking has also opened up a new medium of communication with consumers and brands are able to directly interact with a global audience. Using social media as a marketing channel can be highly effective, but very few brands seem to be able to successfully employ its full potential.
