Time to kick IE6 into touch? Yes please!

IE6 - let's kill it off - please!IE6 - the bane of any web developer's life - no alpha transparency? Hacks to a site's CSS just to make a stab at it working in this dinosaur of the computing world? Unacceptable!

A site we stumbled across today, Bring Down IE6, is campaigning for the demise of Internet Explorer 6 and we support it - it's about time we are all able to start coding sites that concentrate on functionality, with beautiful design  as a given, rather than having to spend hours and hours of coding time compensating corporate Internet users who lag behind in their Windows 200 black hole!

"IE6 is the new Netscape 4. The hacks needed to support IE6 are increasingly viewed as excess freight. Like Netscape 4 in 2000, IE6 is perceived to be holding back the web." reasons Jeff Zeldman, one of the main guys responsible in the 1990s for beating browser makers with the standards stick until they started to play ball.

For now, we find ourselves in the position that many of our biggest clients are still using IE6, and it's always disappointing to see that a fabulous design looks somewhat lacklustre on the screen of the recipient, so we do actively promote upgrading. We use BrowserShots.org to test sites and are happy to help you with any compatability issues you might be having!

Eventually IE6 won\\\'t be an issue, hopefully we can speed it up though. If your going to have a site that breaks in IE6, you might as well just try to redirect your IE6 visitors to help them install another browser.
