Joomla - Setting the date/time for automatic removal of content items
Written by Jack Bremer

Global calendarSo, you've got your Joomla website working beautifully, looking snazzy and your visitors are loving it! Now you want to ensure that when they return the site always seems (or is!) up-to-date eh? It's easy!

When you are editing an item on the site, you will see the block on the right-hand side, with a "Publishing" tab - click that, and then look towards the bottom to the date section...

Publishing tab You can set a date to pretend the item was created (great for keeping news and events in chronological order) and you can set the date/time to publish (go live) on the the site, and the unpublish date/time.

If you have an event on a certain day, you probably want it removed from the site once it's been and gone, right? It's easy to work out the time to set - the servers your site are hosted on are located in Los Angeles (Pacific Time, 8 hours behind the UK).

Current server time (24 hour mode)
- Los Angeles, CA. U.S.A (Pacific Time)

An easy example would be that you want something to come off the site at midnight in the UK... 21st December for example, you should choose 21st December from the calendar, and change the time to 4pm (appears as 16:00:00 in Joomla) as this is 8 hours before midnight in the UK.

If you're not too fussed about it running over a little, most of our clients just put it as the day after and leave it as 0000 (midnight, i.e. as soon as it hits the next day in LA (8am our time, the day after the deadline)). Obviously that's a bit easier, as you can remember it as "as soon as it hits the next day, take this offline".

The easiest way to calculate the times abroad is this site: http://timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html - start with setting as below:
