There are two very important considerations with regards to your site being found on the Internet:

How many people click through to your site once found on the search engines
Essentially, you need to ensure you are being found by the likes of Google, Yahoo and MSN, and once found in the list of results, your content needs to be enticing and relevant so that people click through to your site!
One of the key elements that will help you climb the Google rankings is PageRank. In a nutshell, you can acheive a higher pagerank by having high-pageranking, relevant sites link to your site.
