This guide covers insertion of files using JCE Editor v1.0.4 (not the Pro version) - this is not the standard Joomla WYSIWYG editor.

You will find as you use Joomla, that you will often want to link to a particular file for download. We need to address this in two stages - uploading the file from your computer to the web, and then inserting the link in your website for people to download...
To start with, open up the content item you wish to link to the file from, and in the tool bar click on the File Manager button:
Here's a brief overview of the important buttons. Remember that in Joomla you can hover the mouse on a button when you are not sure what it does, and a brief explanation will show up...
Go Up Directory - Go back to the previous directory in the directory tree.
Create Folder - Create a new folder - it will ask you for a name.
Upload File - Opens the Upload Dialog which allows you to select and upload a file from your computer to the current directory:
Help - Opens the Help pages - they really are helpful, I promise!
Rename - Renames a file or folder. This action can only be performed on a single file or folder.
Delete - Deletes a file, files or folder. Only single folders can be deleted, but multiple files can be deleted - great for spring cleaning and keeping your webspace well organised!
Inserting a File:
Inserting a File in a content item can be done in a few clicks. First, select the file you wish to use by clicking on its name. The file URL and Title will be inserted into the appropriate fields.
Next decide how you want the link to be displayed by changing the title to something appropriate and obvious ("2007 April Accounts" is far clearer than "click here").
- Include Icon - If checked, this includes a small file icon in the link - great to show people that they are downloading a PDF for example.
- Include Date - If checked, this includes the file date in the link - this is the date that you uploaded it to the site.
- Include Size - If checked, this includes the file size in the link, in KB or MB as appropriate.
When you are done, click Insert to insert the link into the article.

Hi Yasmin, I've dropped you an email about our services - putting PDFs and other downloads or streaming content in a Joomla site is easy (once you know how!) if the site is built properly and uses the right tools to facilitate easy content management... Jack Bremer - 3B Web Design

Hi Rajesh, In order to embed the PDF, rather than just link it, you'll want this Joomla extension (for Joomla v1.0.x only): http://snipurl.com/embed_pdf_joomla

@ Amrita - I haven't tried embedding in Joomla v1.5 yet, but if the PDF is on your server (there are various ways to upload it) then you should be able to link to it using the "Insert File" button and browsing for it. We can either hope for a more conclusive answer in the replies, or you can contact us for assistance using the link in the main menu.

Hi Tanmaya, the layout of the JCE editor is slightly different on 1.5. Highlight the text you want to use as the link to your article, and select the link button (the link button has changed as it has additional functions). A popup window will appear. The link button has the ‘upload’ option above the ‘Details’ window. I hope this helps

11"serach module in joomla" on Saturday, 01 November 2008 13:34
Hi all, How to include mod_search module in my joomla template, I want to have search functionality in my joomla site. The template that I am using now does not have any search functionality.but I can't change the template now,I just want to add search functionality in that template. Please help
12"search module in joomla" on Monday, 03 November 2008 11:50
Hi Tanmaya, You don't need to change your template if you don't want to. You simply go to Modules --> Site Modules and find the search module. Publish it and assign it to a position that exists within your template (I'm guessing in a header or footer). If you want the search function to appear as its own position then you will have to edit the index.php/main template. If I was going to add a search module then I would include it within my header div and assign it to an un-used module (USER 8). This would be my code: <?php mosLoadModules ( 'user8', -1 ); ?> Once this is included in the template, then assign the search module to position "user8". Any further questions, let me know.
